Leo, a bulldog, would get extremely excited whenever the UPS carrier Katie Newhouser arrived in her big brown truck at his condo complex. According to Newhouser, whenever she pulled up, Leo would become hysterical and want to come down to greet her. For some reason, he seemed to be particularly interested in her and would always approach her, licking her face.
Newhouser shared that Leo would hop in her truck and explore the interior. However, when it was time for her to leave, Leo would hesitate to get out. Eventually, Katie had the opportunity to meet Leo and Tina during a casual walk.
Newhouser shared that her conversations with most of her customers began with meeting their dogs. She would stop and pet the dogs, which led to conversations with their owners. This became a routine for over a year, and whenever she arrived, Leo would excitedly come out to greet and kiss her. However, things took a different turn for Leo in October.
After my vacation, I headed back to work and made my way to the complex. As I drove in, I saw Cannon, Tina’s son, leaving with furniture loaded in the back of his vehicle. It struck me as odd, and I greeted him with a wave which he reciprocated. Upon trying to call Tina’s phone, I was unable to reach her and all my attempts went to voicemail. I then checked out her Facebook profile and discovered the terrible news – Tina had passed away.
Katie reached out to Tina’s son, Cannon, and proposed to search for Leo during his absence in the Marine Corps. She suggested taking care of Leo until Cannon returns from his training. Cannon agreed to Katie’s offer, and she picked up Leo on the following Saturday as planned.
As Newhouser approached, the dog came running over and started barking, just like he always does when the UPS truck comes around. Then, to Newhouser’s surprise, the dog jumped right into the truck. It seemed like he just wanted a ride, as he often enjoys driving. However, the dog appeared puzzled.
After Tina’s passing, Leo had a hard time adjusting. Katie would wake up to the sound of him whining and crying in the middle of the night because he missed his owner. Fortunately, Leo now has two new furry siblings to keep him company and plenty of love from Katie. Gradually, Leo began to feel more comfortable in his new home.
Katie came to the rescue of little Leo when the rest of the world wouldn’t. She provided him with a loving home, tended to his needs, and made him feel like he belonged there forever. Though we feel for Leo, we’re thrilled that he found Katie. Let’s share this heartwarming story and bring some joy to others!
